The Carelon Guideline Development team conducts a systematic evidence review to inform both new guidelines and annual updates. A key component of the process is an assessment of the collected evidence by a trained methodologist using standardized tools such as Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies (QUADAS), Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy (STARD), Diagnostic Accuracy Quality Scale (DAQS), and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE).
These tools provide a systematic way to determine whether a particular article meets the standard of quality needed to inform clinical decision-making. They take into account such factors as bias, the size and composition of the study group, and the statistical methods used to evaluate the findings.
